Cornell Hemp Webinar Series: Hemp Seed Meal as a Feed Ingredient in Animal Diets

Nathalie Trottier is a Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Cornell University. From 1995 to 2020, Professor Trottier served as a faculty member in the Department of Animal Science at Michigan State University, where she currently holds the title of Professor Emerita. She earned her Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and both her M.S. in Animal Nutrition and B.S. in Agronomy from McGill University in Canada. In her current role at Cornell, Professor Trottier teaches several courses, including Nutrition of Cats and Dogs, Comparative Nutrition of the Horse and Pig; Management of Nutrient Disorders in Cats and Dogs, and Biology of Cats and Dogs. Additionally, she directs the Master of Professional Studies Program in Animal Science, mentors enrolled students and leads a professional development seminar. Professor Trottier’s research primarily focuses on amino acid metabolism and nutrition in livestock species, especially pigs and horses. Her investigations aim to optimize dietary amino acid profiles, enhance nitrogen utilization efficiency, and mitigate environmental impacts through dietary management strategies. She has conducted pioneering research in lactation biology, examining amino acid metabolism and mammary gland function to improve milk production efficiency in sows. Her recent research interests include exploring the application of cannabinoids in cats, dogs, and horses, conducted in collaboration with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, and investigating the nutritional applications of hemp seed meal in diets for horses and pigs.
