Locations
We are testing cultivars in small plot trials at six locations on Cornell research farms, including the most southerly and most northerly latitudes.
Stand establishment
Planting was accomplished using a cone seeder at 15 live seed/ft^2 for grain and dual-purpose and 30 live seed/ft2 for fiber cultivars. Very dry conditions and inadequate site prep at planting resulted in poor stand counts in Geneva and Ithaca.
Harvest yield and quality assessment
We will harvest the grain and dual-purpose plots with a small plot combine, weigh dry grain, then analyze oil and protein content. Fiber types will be cut with a sickle bar, retted, weighed, and analyzed. Cannabinoids will be quantified for female flowers from each plot.
