Dr. Heather Darby is a Professor of Agronomy at University of Vermont. Heather developed the UVM Hemp Program in 2015. She has conducted applied research on growing high cannabinoid hemp in the northeast. Her research has included investigating adapted varieties, planting dates, plant spacing, weed control options, disease control methods, and harvesting and dry techniques. Dr. Darby has also developed a variety of outreach programs and educational materials to help growers overcome production challenges with hemp.

Dr. Darby will present on her experiences growing hemp in the northeast. Her presentation will take us from seed to flower with a presentation focused on research based but yet practical information on growing high cannabinoid hemp in the northeast. She will cover basic production strategies including seed acquisition, starting plants, and field preparation. She will talk about fertility management and weed control as well as pest management throughout the season. Finally she will talk about harvesting challenges and storage/drying considerations to make sure a high quality product is brought to market!
