Cornell Hemp Webinar Mar 22: Pests with Kadie Britt

Cornell Hemp Webinar Series: Pests
Dr. Kadie Britt, Posdoctoral Scholar, UC Riverside
March 22, 2023 | 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. (EST)

Dr. Kadie Britt is a postdoctoral scholar affiliated with the University of California Riverside Department of Entomology, located at the Kearney Agricultural Research Extension Center in Parlier, CA working with Dr. Houston Wilson. Her postdoctoral research has focused on a variety of issues in multiple crop systems including almonds, pistachios, hemp, and cannabis with an overarching goal of improving the sustainability of agricultural pest management practices. Prior to arriving in California, Kadie earned her PhD working with Dr. Thomas Kuhar in the Virginia Tech Department of Entomology where her doctoral research focused on arthropod pest management in hemp. Kadie has worked with growers and Extension personnel in California, Virginia, and beyond to learn about and help alleviate issues faced by those growing hemp and cannabis in field and indoor settings. Her passion within entomology is Extension and the opportunity to work with growers.

The United States has recently seen a massive increase in acreage of hemp production. With this sudden increase of acres planted comes new growers, new pest problems, and inevitable yield losses caused by a variety of factors, including insect and mite pests. Due to the novelty of this crop, university researchers and Extension personnel are unable to offer up-to-date, research-based information to our stakeholders. This webinar focuses on common pests found in indoor and outdoor hemp production across the United States as well as currently known options for management.
